An introduction

Hey there!

My name is Ricardo, but I'm known online as Keops. I hail from the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela, and I'm a graphic designer by trade. However, I want to make a living out of video games, so now I'm an aspiring game developer with little clue where to start.

This is my DevLog, where I will talk about my learning experiences and my game dev projects (I think I'll also talk about gaming sometimes). I decided to create this blog for several reasons. First and foremost as a way to keep a record of my learning and progress. Blogger's platform will serve as a nice archive, sorting everything by date and keeping posts neatly labeled. Secondly, to share my findings, experiences and projects with whomever is interested in game developement. And lastly, to learn more about blogging and have a new experience. This is not my first blog ever, but I'll see how far I get with this one, hopefully sharing useful things and learning a lot in the process.

As for where I stand right now, well, I can say for certain that I'm not yet capable of completing a game project on my own. One of my goals is to be able to complete a game by myself (art, code and sounds) as a learning experience. Due to my preparation and experience as a graphic designer, my strongest skill right now is in graphical assets production, specifically 2D pixel art graphics (I have some professional experience in this area) and graphic design (logos, web design). I have very limited experience in coding (studying on my own, which has proved very difficult so far) and also extremely limited sound related experience.

At any rate, I'm currently working on learning to use GameMaker: Studio and also practicing to improve my pixel art skills. I have some sort of unorganized roadmap of things I'd love to learn, like 3D modelling, animation, coding, etc. But I need to try and focus on something first, and after evaluating the options I decided to go head to head with GM: S.

Anyways, this is getting long, so I'll stop right now. I don't know how frequently will the blog be updated, so I won't make any promises. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions, ideas or encouragement!

See you around.

Keops out.

PS: I usually lurk around some game dev / indie communities like TIGSource using the same handle or something similar (usually Keops or Keopskun).
